Reiki is an energy healing modality that was channeled and developed by Dr. Mikao Usui on Mount Kurama in Japan. The translation, "Rei" meaning universal, and "Ki" meaning life force energy, speaks to the universal life force energy which we and all things are a part of. In a reiki healing session, the practitioner connects to this infinite source of love, and channels that (through hands, intention, sound) into the recipient with the intention that they receive what is in their highest and greatest good.
This is a relaxing modality that can be done in person, hands-on or -off the body, as well as remotely. It can also be combined with other modalities to amplify the healing benefits.
In a reiki session, positive energy is channeled into your body. This is done by the practitioner lightly placing their hands on or near the body in specific positions, allowing energy to flow where it is most needed.
This process supports the body in entering the "rest and digest" state, which is where we achieve optimal healing results. In this way we can balance your bodies energy, remove blockages, and support the body's natural self-healing processes.
Reiki's benefits are wide-ranging, bringing positive impact to all areas of life.

During a reiki session, you will have a consultation with your practitioner to set an intention and to share anything you would like support with. You will be guided to lie down comfortably.
During in person sessions, you will lie down fully clothed on a massage table, and you may choose to have pillows or blankets supporting you.
In a distance session, you are invited to be comfortable and relaxed and it is recommended to not be driving or operating machinery.
The practitioner will then move through a series of points throughout your body, and your chakras or energy centers to support you in coming into alignment. There may be a guided meditation, or light music, oils or other elements depending on the setting and your practitioner.
Following the session, you will be guided back into your body and into the present moment and you will be invited to share anything you experienced, and the practitioner will share anything they received or are guided to as well.

Reiki is known for being incredibly gentle and supportive, with no known harmful side effects. Some people may experience emotional release, feeling temporary sensations in the body as energy moves and is cleared. Generally these experiences are short-lived and part of the healing experience.
